STATE OF FLORIDA vs. JEREMY VEGA
When we took Jeremy Vega’s case, he was being accused of the following charges:
According to the State, Mr. Vega was responsible for a hit-and-run accident in which a 4-year-old boy was injured. The prosecution claimed that the alleged hit-and-run was the result of an encounter with another driver fueled by road-rage. However, witnesses could not be certain that our client, a father of a child in similar age to the victim, was actually the driver of the vehicle.
At trial, the jury heard the testimony of the then-five-year-old victim, who had made a full recovery. Yet, once our knowledgeable criminal defense attorneys outlined the circumstantial nature of the evidence and exposed the uncertainty held by witnesses about Mr. Vega’s guilt, the jury found our client not guilty of all charges.
In any criminal case, the State must prove the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the charges held against them. If the jury is not 98-99% certain that the defendant committed the crimes they are being accused of, they cannot find the defendant guilty of those crimes.
